Join the Plastic Fantastic Challenge

Love Plastic Not Waste! Plastic is definitely one of the most fantastic breakthroughs in history. However, the environmental problems caused by Plastic waste are disastrous! Join the Plastic Fantastic Challenge and co-create disruptive business solutions that tackle the plastic packaging waste problem.

Current status

From all inventions in the past, plastic is definitely one of the most fantastic breakthroughs in history. Its cheap design, flexibility, indefinite lifespan, unbreakable structure and low weight helped us design many-many products that increased our standard of living enormously.

The issue

Plastic has helped us out in a lot of ways. However, the environmental problems caused by Plastic waste are disastrous! In the EU, 38% of all plastic waste ends up as landfill or leaks from the system causing serious threats to our environment and global health. Most plastic waste originates from packaging (63%), which is primarily designed for single-use and is discarded after use. The willingness amongst current industry players to change this pattern is present, but they find themselves with their backs against the wall. Stringent demands from consumers and cost efficiency issues make it hard for the industry to innovate.

How you can fix it

We need systemic change in plastic packaging industry to stop and prevent negative environmental impact. We can achieve this change when companies, entrepreneurs and knowledge institutes will act together to solve the plastic packaging waste issue.
Through an online- and offline inclusive open innovation program, the Plastic Fantastic Challenge aims to unleash new innovation power that leads to the launch of new entities in Europe, that can tackle the plastic packaging waste issue.
